Leon Kanters

Leon has been professionally active in the field of trade & customs for over 30 years. His client base is very diverse and ranges from directors-major shareholders (dgas) to multinationals active in various sectors, including chemicals, automotive, fashion, pharmaceuticals, food & beverages, and electronics. He has extensive experience in the field of excise duty, BPM, trade compliance and export control.

Before joining Meijburg & Co in 1995, Leon worked at the Tax and Customs Administration.

Leon is frequently involved in international customs planning and customs compliance (SASP licenses and customs valuations). He is also chairman of the customs committees of VNO-NCW and BusinessEurope, the business organizations of the Netherlands and Europe respectively. Leon also has a lot of litigation experience, both nationally at the various courts in the Netherlands and internationally at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.

Since the British referendum of 23 June 2016, Leon has focused in particular on the impact of Brexit on business.

Leon regularly organizes seminars in the field of trade & customs and acts as a speaker on various occasions. He has been chairman of KPMG Trade & Customs practices in Europe, the Middle East and Africa since 2004 and is therefore very active internationally.
